A local artist tells Castanet that he was walking on the shore when he made the discovery. “I was just walking along the waterfront looking for driftwood to make some art when I saw what looks like a hawk or Osprey, just dead in the water,” says James Cox....

Hadi Matar, 24, of Fairview, NJ, is scheduled to appear on the charges at an afternoon court hearing in Chautauqua County. Matar was arrested on August 12 after allegedly storming the stage at the Chautauqua Foundation, stabbing Rushdie multiple times in front of a horrified crowd. The original charges were filed the next day, when Matar’s court-appointed attorney entered a “not guilty” plea on his behalf. The court ruled that the city did not have the right to read and download private messages transmitted through the Facebook Messenger app. The talks were between Kent and former councilors Andrew Ledwell and Andrea Power after Kent was placed on paid leave following harassment allegations....

Jake Freeman and his family bought nearly 5 million shares of the struggling U.S. home goods retailer at less than $5.50 a share in July for a total outlay of about $25 million. After a nearly 500% rise in shares, fueled by intense chatter about the stock on Reddit message boards, including several posts by Freeman, he sold them for more than $130 million – crystallising a huge profit. They rose as high as $28 on Tuesday, when Freeman has sold most of his stake....

The industry and its financial regulator, Ofwat, say the water companies lost an average of 2,923.8m litres of water a day in 2021-22, equating to 1.06tn litres over the year, although Ofwat said the figures remained provisional until it has completed validation checks. The figure amounts to the equivalent of 426,875 Olympic swimming pools or more than three and a half Lake Windermeres. Thames Water leaked the largest volumes, according to the industry body Water UK, losing 217bn litres of water over the year – this week, the company announced it would introduce a hosepipe ban from 24 August, affecting 15 million customers....
